Has anyone on here ever had to take a Wunderlic Comprehensive Personality Profile as part of a pre-employment hiring process?

I took one day and "failed" it.

I think all of these personality profiles are a pile of garbage. Basically some psychologist designed some test that supposedly figures out your personality.

I think they're a load of dung. I'm sure a lot of people choose answers based on what they think the company wants to hear instead of their true selves. Especially those who are desperate for a job. I've never taken that kind of test, but I have taken one which asked you to choose words that were synonymous with you. During that entire test, I tried to choose the most honest answer, but I kept asking myself if it's the answer the company wanted to hear.

I don't see how those tests help you unless you hook the person up to a lie detector to make sure they answer each question truthfully. You're better off just interviewing them, talking to their references, etc.

It's not necessarily designed to figure out personality per se from a selection standpoint. If they are using it correctly they actually tied it performance.

So what the organization should have done was give the test to everyone, but not use it in selection, and then look at which factors are most related to performance. In this instance they are showing that people with certain personality profiles tend to have higher job performance than others.

After they have established that certain factors do indeed predict performance in that particular job it becomes a valid selection tool. However, they should not have just used that alone. Usually they use something like that in combination with a few more assessments, like an interview, etc.

So you didn't "fail" it per-se your profile just failed to match with people that succeed on the job.

and yes Kattwoman, there is a plethora of research suggesting people fake personality inventories in high stakes testing. That is why the majority of organizations do not use personality as a selection tool.

Yep - a number of times. Reminds me,
in some respects, of the Mensa test.

You don't "fail" the test ... you have to understand what the
function of the test demonstrates about the candidate.

Actually, they aren't garbage ... they are a component
to determine if you'll be able to assimilate into the
organization, to effectively absorb information, and to
solve problems.

It's not that a candidate "fails' ... it's that they aren't
at a level [yet] to perform at a level the organization
is looking for (i.e. - minimum requirements).

Well, I passed the Wunderlic Personnel Test portion, but I didn't pass the Wunderlic Personality Profile.

I guess I don't have the personality they are looking for.
