Today for the third time a coworker outside my department has asked me when would I be leaving the company? I have not been interviewing lately nor have I spoken to anyone about leaving the company. Should I be concerned that management is plotting to fire me or perhaps other employees are attempting to upset me. My question is should I discuss these conversations with my manager or just ignore them?
I would go into see the boss and explain that you heard about a rumor about your leaving the company, perhaps he too has heard it. Then reassure him/her that you are very happy working there and have no intention on leaving.
Many years ago, my husband started working at a new company. He was placed in a certain cubical for a month, while they set up his permanent cubical. A friend called his phone number that was by his old cubical. Whoever answered the phone said that my husband isn't there any more. Which was true, he wasn't at that desk any more but did not make that clear to the other person. Rumors went around that he quit the company. His boss heard about the rumor and came up to my husband one evening and said for someone who no longer works here, you sure put in a lot of overtime! You never know how a rumor started.
Nope. Just working hard as usual. So crazy how rumors start. I asked the girl today how she heard such craziness and she refused to disclose her sources.
We used to do that to new employees.... After they had worked for a week or two we tell them that we were sorry to hear that they were leaving the company so soon...

How long have you been there?
From the above comment my read is that there's something more going on and someone has some sort of an agenda in play.

Ive been there three years. I have no idea what is going on. Im not sure if management is trying to get me out or the other employees. I have a good relationship with my direct manager but tend to stay to myself and not socialize much with the other employees. I just know something is not right.
