You should buy another washer and dryer set then, stimulate the economy some more.

I do agree, China has no respect for patents or intellectual property. Their own government gladly admits to using pirated copies of Windows. They have been known to buy scraps of American planes that have been shot down or crashed to reverse engineer the technology. It's horrible what they tolerate, and for that reason I hate that country, however there are some very good countries that make our goods, and for less. Taiwan, India, even South Korea, I personally think that we should but American, or at least from our allies - and China is Communist, not an ally.

They also have a lot less red tape to set up businesses and nearly no code enforcement.

Two of the biggest obstacles the recession has given me in my business.

Since the city is broke, they try to fine you, but they overlook properties that look like the start of a landfill to talk about your peeling paint in the back of the house or say you have overgrowth because you cut grass at a property every two weeks, yet next door there could be a field of 6 foot tall grass and they won't say a thing.

Also it's not just labor, it's environment controls, liability/insurance issues, and taxes.

Yes it means it would cost more than $2 for a XYZ trinket. Maybe Americans wouldn't be parking their cars outside filling their garages with useless Chinese goods if the prices were higher? Maybe we would buy for long term use vs. short term "throw away" product? Maybe companies would be engineering products that are repairable vs. simply "buy another" once yours breaks? My washer and dryer are 20 years old, and parts are still sold by Sears. How 'bout yours? And no, it's not because I can't "afford" to buy another. I keep them because they still work, and they are US made. I love seeing that plague on them, I'm proud of it.

Do you realize that China makes the majority of our products these days? Practically everything has a "made in China" label on it. The Chinese don't buy our products (except for Boeing jets) they are buying our real estate. Our infrastructure. Our companies. Our natural resources. We are litterally selling our selves out to the Chinese for short term (as in 10-20 year) gain. Then on top of that they steal our products and designs, re-engineer them, and sell them back to us for cheap ignoring patent law by drop shipping. One of the few things they are letting foreign companies build in their country is nuclear power plants, but the companies have to submit all technical drawings and specs to them first, and they are only building 1 or 2 plants. Gee I wonder why? The Chinese will build them themselves.

A quality or repairable product? Like in the 40s?
