I was a substitute teacher for a good 10 yrs & a special ed teacher for a year in between that, but after yrs of hard work, I got hired as a Speech-Language Pathologist! I start Monday.
And that's not all. I get EVERY FRIDAY OFF & still make a pretty good salary since I have so many college units, I'm on the last column of the payscale. If anyone's familiar w/ how school district employees get paid, there's a grid w/ about 7 or 8 starting salaries going horizontally, then salary amounts going vertically. The horizontal amounts represent how many college units you have starting w/ w Bacehlors degree, so the farthest to the RIGHT, the higher it is. Then, the amts going down are the salaries for each year. So ultimately, you wat to be on the farthest right bottom corner, which is after 12+ yrs of working.
Just by dint of this being a positive post on this generally depressing forum, good for you!
Ditto what STT said. And expanding the thought a bit further, I propose there be a "sticky" just for people to post their successes in the job hunt arena. Hopefully such a sticky will help others draw/maintain strength and perseverance until they, too, can post of their own job hunt successes.
Since we lack that sticky (currently), I'll post my positive and hope others will post theirs in order to keep bumping this thread to the top of the forum: I recently accepted a great offer for a great position, working with super people, and doing what I love. This after searching for 2+ years in both the private and public sectors, and being of the >55 crowd .
Moral of the story: Keep on keepin' on! Stay focused and ignore the naysayers; what you can conceive and believe, you CAN achieve.
