most unfortunate that american labor is anti labor. if unions were supported; furloughs would not exist, nor would offshoring of american jobs.
And to think, we had the solution to business slowdowns and unemployment right at our fingertips! Unions, yeah...that's the ticket! Nice try.

How do you think unions would stop offshoring? Take a look at Michigan's unemployment rate, a state with a very strong union presence.

If a union were involved, this company would probably be out of business and there would be zero jobs. None.

Let's please not turn this into a union/non-union thread. We are attacting people from other boards that do a search for the word "union" and then come to start flame wars. Let's practice restraint in Austin please! We can do it!

D o any of you own a business or have friends family that do

if you do what is the reason to open up a business ?
( 1 ) To sell or provide a product /service at a profit so as to be able to feed and support the owners family .
(2 ) to give somebody a job whether there services are required or not just cus they *think *they are entitled
answer is #1

do you ever have hire a contractor to mow your lawn whether its needs it or not ?

do you every buy a product /service you dont need or use just to keep somebody in a job ?
of course you dont .

to the O Per you should be gratefull your boss is using a plan to keep as many of his employees in work as he can, and not just fire them . then when economic times get better employ new staff at a reduced salary
if it was me id thank him for his concern for your future .

Moderator cut: off topic/personal

its because of greedy irresponsible unions that we are in the economic state we are in ,
we cant compete on the world market cus the cost of our products are to high .
production is *off shored *to keep the retail price down with out foreign production everyday goods we all enjoy would be out of reach for most lower income familys .
would you pay for instance 3 times as much for your kids clothing .???

the unions con the worker into believing they **work for you * most of the top union officials recieve salaries and benefits that are comparable to the executives they constantly bad mouth .
they deduct a FEE from your hard earned pay every week and with some of the money collected bankroll in large amounts a political party you may or may not support . this is done without your consent
they invest the rest *after paying themselves huge salaries * in blue chip companies to insure a fat return on the investment
the *same* companies they are telling you make to much profit for their share holders , they stiffle initiative by demanding promotion according to length of service and not ability, they inhibit the companies efforts to grow by insisting it keeps employed the lazy irresponsible workers .
WHOS KIDDING WHO ??.

Moderator cut: orphaned

This is not a thread about unions. I would like to keep talking about the OPs situation, and your clearly angry rants are going to get this thread shut down.

jennibc:"How do you think unions would stop offshoring? Take a look at Michigan's unemployment rate"

Since the RTW South gained all the transplant facilities the last few decades, and with Audi, Volvo, & Hyundai poised to add plants, Michigan did not lose as many jobs to off-shoring, as off-stating..courtesy of the UAW. Granholm admitted when chosen as a finalist for VW (of Chattanooga, Tn) their execs spent the day discussing how much they did not want to deal with them. No problem, we have plenty of certified sites in the South for new auto plants.

PS, Huntville, Alabama was the runner -up for VW..not Michigan.
