So I’m going to be resigning at the end of next week. I’ve only been on the job for a few weeks, but I got a much better offer somewhere else. I knew this day was coming for two weeks and I feel guilty about it. My manager dotes on about how awesome I am, but awesome does not pay the bills.

I have been told that I should expect to be walked out the door since I have no time in at this company. I think this bridge is going to burn regardless of what I do. I don’t think they can even match the offer I received from this other company. I’m still going to work and giving a 100%, so this is going to hit hard when I tell them.

Any thoughts?

I hate to break it to you while they may be a little annoyed at first they will just call back candidates #2 and maybe #3 and offer them the job.

This happens all the time.

You just leave it off your resume, and in a couple of weeks it won't matter to them or to you.

Good luck on your new job.

It is what it is. You have to do what is best for you and if you can do better, you should. I agree, leave it off your resume'. Many people take jobs to get them over the hump.

Don't feel guility about your decision. Employers treat employees like temps, they let you go without notice. My personal belief is that we are all long term temps working jobs, until they tell US our assignment is over. This way, you just did role reversal.

Good opportunities don't come around very often, especially in this economy. There's only one smart thing to do in this situation: take the new job.

It's not a big deal. They'll be able to find a replacement for you right away.
