I totally agree with this post. Forget about applications. I mean do it anyway.
Well there are different strategies. Most of openings are not even posted anywhere (at least it is how it is for my type of work). You really need to KNOW that the place is actually looking for someone.
You need to find a contact and check and check and check again and again.
From my experience people are very responsive now. I get 80% of response from cold emails.
Monitor the companies you think might need people, read the news etc. Find the Contacts - I simply use LinkedIn. Send email; some people call..I am not that agressive
I email...
You establish the contact; then ask to follow up in a couple of months and do not forget to do that.
Unfortunately, it does take a lot of time. You will need to send many-many emails, but one will click and you will get a job!!!
Another thing what I do is if you see the position posted somewhere, find the contact and check if it is real position and if you can be considered.
