Hi all!

This is Swarna, I’m Indian citizen, I hold my Masters Degree (Pot Graduation) in Applied Economics and in addition, I had another regular one year Diploma in Financial Risk Management, majors in Credit, market, operational and IT Risk Management. Post qualification, I had three years of experience in the area of corporate planning and strategy in BFSI industry.

Now, I got an admission in MS in Accounting (MSA) with a full tuition waiver from one of the best University at Boston area, I know this program has overwhelming reputation in across USA and other nations.

Now I’m in dilemma, whether to pursue another MS or not? As I am already having a Graduate Degree and a Diploma in Risk Management, Shall go for another?, if I pursued this MSA, can I get good paid job? Do you suggest me to go for another degree?

I have good analytics work experience with Eviews SPSS and SAS. My past work experience, academic background in various areas of economics coupled with risk management, econometrics and statistics.
Will these help me in getting a good paid job in US?

What I don't know much about is what the job market is like for the accountancy/finance sector, which is why I'm here. In addition, I haven't been able to Google any easy answers on whether finding a good job will be easy or possible as my work experience isn’t in USA.

I really appreciate your opinion and suggestions!!

If you'll be attending university here on a student visa you'll obviously need to have enough money to support yourself outside of the tuition expenses which are being waived and I believe that a student visa restricts you to working only on campus and not as a "free agent". When your studies are completed there's no guarantee whatsoever that there will either be employment opportunities available to you in the US or, more important, a US employer who will sponsor you for a work visa.

If you go to the legal immigration forum on this site you'll find a link to the USCIS website in the first "sticky" on the forum page. This will give you an in depth understanding of the US immigration laws along with the restrictions attached to the visa you'll be coming into the US with. Good luck!

Thanks,

I got your point, as you pointed I can not work as "free-agent'' and i need to have enough money to support myself. I know my chances of getting a job would be less after completing my MS, but i had good qualification and three years of analytical experience in hand, if I try and work hard, my probability of getting job would be increase.

I would like to ask you is, what is the job market trends is like for the accountancy/finance sector? which is why I'm here.

Thanks for your suggestion.

I have no idea what it is now nor what it's likely to be by the time you graduate. The only way to gauge what your chances might be of finding a sponsor is to google the types of positions for which you'll qualify upon graduating and see what the demand is like right now. Unless your degree and your experience in the field is going to bring you a skill which makes you in high demand and which isn't one normally attained by a US citizen, your chances of a sponsorship are minimal at best. But, then again, the advanced degree from a prestigious US university might put you on an excellent footing in India. Sorry not to be of more help.
