For a typical 9-5 office job, if the company wanted to have you come in for an interview during a weekend or a minor holiday, would you go? What would you think about this kind of request?
My initial thoughts were maybe they just got very busy on something with an upcoming deadline. Or, maybe they are planning on firing someone, and the employee I'd replace is back from vacation, so they want to avoid any awkward moments. Or, maybe they just want to see how interested I am in this job? This company is #2 on my list of interest right now, and this will be the final round of interviews (I've met them twice already, for the first and second round, which were held during normal 9-5 office hours).
Also, assume company is pretty reputable, located in a decent area, in terms of safety concerns. What would you think about this? And would you go? I didn't think much of it at first, but then I realized it seems a little unusua.
I would welcome it, but I also work full time and want to minimize the time I take off of work for other interviews. They get tricky, so weekends or holidays would be ideal.
The first job interview that was scheduled on a Saturday, I called to reschedule. I never interviewed with them because they never called back to reschedule.
The second interview that was scheduled on a Saturday, I went to it and was offered an internship 4 days later.
Like someone said, if you want it, go. Unless it's an emergency, some employers may use this as a test to see how flexible you are and how much you really want the job.
There is always the possibility that they asked you to come in on a holiday not only because that is when they are available to interview you but to assess whether or or not you will be amenable to staying late or coming in on holidays if something needs to get done.
I would go in a heartbeat and see nothing wrong with the request.
I never had this requested of me for an office job, but a few years ago, I was applying to wait tables in a restaurant (this was when I was looking for any job right out of college), and they asked me to interview on a Sunday night. I thought it was a little unusual, but since it was their non-peak time (after dinner), I went. I didn't get the job, but oh well. I ended up finding an office job a couple weeks later anyway.
