I have one of these. While he is not trying to get me fired, he is trying to limit my influence. I am plotting my next move. Unfortunately I had a lot of politics and roadblocks to handle in order to launch some initiatives, and he came along at the moment when all the roadblocks were clear - and he decided to try and take them all over.

He is ambitious and fake. I didn't trust him from day 1 and my instincts were right. He doesn't understand that bulldozing won't work forever. And he is sexist.

My boss has neither the skill or political capital to empower me and didn't do his job of moving my blockers. This guy wants to take credit for everything and took advantage of the lack of oversight from his managers to take over. Now there is no space for me to take on projects on my roadmap and I do not have enough authority to do so.

I haven't completely decided what I want my next career move to be, but I have hit the ceiling at my current place. While some people have also noticed he is evil, they do not have politcal positioning to have influence. So I am in a rock and hard place.

All this does is cause hardship for everyone involved, not to mention the bottom line, so I fail to see why so many managers let people get away with bullying others. There's zero reason why people working together can't be nice and cooperative with each other, 100% of the time - if they can't manage to do that, then they need to be dismissed from the workplace, pronto. No ifs or buts about it...lol. Also, I'd ban "he said / she said" accusations too, any wrongdoing HAS to be witnessed by a manager to have any validity whatsoever - imagine how much more productive people would be if they didn't have to watch their back every minute of the day, just because a coworker has it out for him or her.
If I could rep you 100 times, I would! This is one of the most intelligent posts I've ever read on this board, or any Internet forum, period. Very rare to read something like this, especially on this site.

In any case, I completely agree with the above 200%. Having to navigate office politics & interpersonal relationships at work is a huge hassle, and it takes away time/energy from what we should all be at work for - i.e., to do our job & not be distracted by petty bull$#$%. I really hate seeing incompetent people who do the minimum at work being able to get away with bad-mouthing others, etc.

This is one of the many reasons I'm glad I can work from home to some extent. I don't have to deal with a-holes, and can just focus on doing my job.
