You asked for an honest opinion. IMO, if you fail to produce work product, you can't just throw your hands in the air and say "I tried". I'm also fairly certain that other people have been able to complete this process, right?

Bottom line, time to reevaluate the process and the approach, the one used now is failing to get the job done.

What do the other people in her position do?

Do they have a better response rate?

Maybe changing the process so the recruiter ensures the applicant calls the referrals first, so they know to expect the call from your friend would help.

She has suggested this. To the recruiters and the boss.

The onus then falls on the applicant. "Thanks for applying, Applicant! Please know that we require 2 personal references. We will be contacting them within the next two days only, so please provide names of people who are available and willing." You can bet the applicant will ENSURE the referrals will be available.

So, I agree with an earlier poster. Just "making the calls" again and again, knowing this process is obviously not working, is a characteristic of an employee I would not want to have.
It's really a shame about the 2 of you. Glad she works for neither of you.

She is the only one in the position.

Not that I know of...whenever she approached the recruiters with issues getting ahold of people and asks that they have their candidates prep their references, they give no support. Her boss tells her references are hard to get and that it wastes the time of the recruiters to have discussions with applicants about their references...so she gets those that don't call, wrong numbers, and ones that are not usable.

She calls, on average, 15-20 references per week. Some she gets at first, others not....

I'm not sure what you were looking to hear? Did you just want people to side with you and her and provide posts showing compassion? I just provided one suggestion, there are many more things she can try. And, if she's always offering suggestions for process improvement, and they keep ignoring these suggestions, why the heck does she still want to work there?

But, I'm sure you don't want to hear this either. So I'll provide something that will continue to give you and her the warm and fuzzy feeling.

Oh, poor baby! I know it's just awful. You try and try and try and people still do not recognize your efforts. Your management and other office workers must be miserable people for treating you so poorly. While I can't offer advice as to what to do, please know that I am praying for you. You go, girl!!

I don;t she how can be held accountable if someone is not responding. One of my references didn't respond at all and I was asked did I want to use another person so the process could be completed.

So maybe she can do that with the applicants who have people who did not respond back.

She still wants to work there because, when you are a grown-up you realize that you are not going to win every work thing. Sometimes employers do things that you do not agree with and you have to decide if it is a deal breaker or not. She is trying to handle the situation to the best of her ability, and you came on here to get your kicks by anonymously trashing her.

Wow. You get your kicks by being unnecessarily cruel, you get called on it and you throw a temper tantrum.

As I said, and as you have yet again proven, so glad she does not work for people like you.

Well, first things first - we are all anonymous here. I have yet to see you post your name and address.

Secondly, there was nothing in either of my posts that was cruel. In a society where everyone believes they are the most important person around and you should be rewarded with flowers and praise just because you work hard, I guess I see why you feel constructive criticism is "unnecessarily cruel".

Finally, of course it's true that employers do not always do things that you agree with, and each employee must decide if that is a deal breaker or not. But you have indicated that she has tried to improve a flawed process, they have ignored her on her suggestions, and they are now calling her out on her poor results due to that exact same process she attempted to improve. If that isn't a deal breaker, I can't imagine what is.

Where exactly did I say she was called out on it? Her boss flat out said she was not in any trouble. I asked if her results showed that she was making the appropriate efforts. You decided that attacking people anonymously was your sport for the weekend. You are intentionally being a jerk. Shame on you.
