Margins for cover letters (good, online, physically)

My cover letter runs 2 pages when I do a double space but when I do 1.5 space I can fit it in when I reduce the margins on the sides and/or top.

Does it look bad when the margin is too narrow?
Does 1.5 spacing look good enough or is 2.0 spacing better?

That's an awful long cover letter.

I'd go with 1.5 spacing and normal margins.

The majority of my cover letters are either 1) emails or 2) cut/past text into an online ap. All are single spaced.

Sometimes I do upload a single page PDF or Word doc, again single spaced, using 10pt type. Margins are 1" or so.

What size font are you using?

I was using 12 pt font. Is that too big?
Should it be single spaced? Maybe I was trying to make it too formal by make it more than single spaced?

10 point is perfectly acceptable. The content is far more important than the format.

Well, considering that it was 12 pt type, double spaced, very easy to do! I just converted one of my 10 pt/single spaced letters and the closing went onto the second page.

OP, just just 10 or 11 pt and single spacing.

BTW, these are electronic, right? Or are you physically mailing them?

You only need to write a paragraph when it comes to cover letters which is very short and to the point.
