Here's a trick. Drive through the parking lot, main employee entry at buildings/companies that you are applying....as long as an entrance pass/security isn't in the mix. Go approx 8am-8:30 am when most employees are heading into the office. Evaluate what they are wearing. If the building/complex/parking lot are off limits, don't do this.
I think you might be planning to wear dresses that are too short for most offices. You don't want to be the only person that wears short dresses. To be honest, I think you are going to find that most women wear longer skirts/dresses to work than what you are used to .
Do some of these office complex drive throughs and look for yourself. You will learn the dress code quickly. You likely will find that most offices (no matter what company) have the same general attire.
Skimmed the thread but didn't see anything... Has the OP stated what sort of industry she's going (or would like to go) into yet? That makes all the difference. For example, in finance/banking it's suits. Hot, cold, raining - whatever. You suit up, unless you're an admin.
Googling helps a lot, too. Just search your industry, and you should be able to find out whether it's business professional, business casual, or casual. From there, search those and you'll be bombarded with more blog posts and pinterest pages than you know what to do with.
