I just read a sad post on another website where someone is getting their hours cut to part-time, oddly just before the 1st of the year, seriously, I am sure there are many since we have seen it in the news, in the name of makes health care affordable, not. So, would unemployment for the hours lost be possible? I am just curious and know it may depend on the state also? Maybe?

No that is not an option. The only option is finding either a second job or a better job.
