In my experience, it's a pretty safe major. Every business needs an accountant. There's also corporate accounting, public accounting, government accounting so there are lots of opportunities. There are more opportunities to be had in larger cities. Getting straight A's and being on the dean's list should help with getting internships which can lead to entry level jobs. Accounting is probably the most useful and marketable business major. So if you enjoy it and do well in the classes then I say go for it.
My boyfriend, who's still in school, recently decided on a major: accounting. He's been getting straight A's. He's on the Dean's list.
Anyone know how the job market for accountants is doing? We live in the Chicago area. We plan to move to Florida in 5 or so years.
Good in chicago for accounting. The key is to use your schools placement service
