I thought of another one I've heard recently at several companies: "Bio-break" Used during long tedious meetings to indicate it's time to let people use the restroom.
Also Fire Drill in reference to an "emergency" which requires lots of immediate attention at the last minute.
This thread is awesome!!! I hear some of these all the time...didn't realize they were "buzz words" used around the corporate world. I'm going to start using them with my boss and see if gets a laugh out if it
This thread is titled, "Worst 2014 corporate buzzwords," but most of these corporate buzzwords were around in the 1980s. I was working for a large consulting firm in the 1980s and I probably got to hear many of them before most other folks.
BTW, the buzzword, "silo" was commonly used in describing problems with hospitals back as far as the 1980s. It referred to each hospital department caring only about what happened within their department and having their own information system.
no argument there. I've worked at or with those a number of these consulting firms for the last decade. And unfortunately, just about every single word/phrase on here is used daily. I'd be lying if I said I don't use them all the time either.
In fact, I just got off a call where I'll be "reaching back" to a few if I have more questions. sigh....
Yes, yes, yes. Heard most of these over the years.
My all-time hall of shame:
- At the end of the day
- Reach out
- Low hanging fruit
- Think outside the box
- 24/7
- Synergy(ies)
