If you haven't heard there's a supermarket chain that's on a protest/strike. It's non union and treated very well by a CEO who was most recently fired. He's treated people well to the point where thousands are demonstrating for him to be hired back. Now the other part of this is that they have been given until Monday to go back to work or others will be hired. I'm hoping this stays civil until it is over.
"But there is another important factor: The pay is generous enough that managers and supervisors can easily make into the six figures as they advance up the corporate ladder.
The pay for hourly workers is hardly extravagant, but high by supermarket standards — more than $40,000 for experienced cashiers, while full-time clerks start at $12 an hour, well above the minimum wage.
Most workers can also regularly count on receiving tidy bonuses, typically doled out four times per year, that can amount to an extra six to eight weeks of pay.
In the grocery industry, “typically there are no bonuses for clerks,” said Kevin Griffin, publisher of the Griffin Report of Food Marketing, a trade publication for the food industry. “Do you get a bonus every quarter? Nobody does. But at Market Basket, everybody does.”
Market Basket also contributes an amount equivalent to 15 percent of each employee’s pay to a retirement plan, and some longtime workers retire with more than $1 million in savings."
It's definitely in my top 10 states that I want to live in.
MA, CT, and NJ are very similar in that respect. It also happens to be the states where most of the decent colleges are (NY and CA being other comparable states). MA is a step ahead thanks to Mitt Romney. Hopefully other states follow with the changes he put in place.
If high prices, high housing costs, college kids living on mommy's dime and illegal immigrants that collect mega government benefits is your kind of thing, welcome to massachusetts.
Your articulate, well thought out reply is so very appreciated!!!
