I am kinda in limbo. I am looking to do something different, something away from customer service. As an introvert, I would like nothing more than to be "behind the scenes" of some company. I have done well here, and even got promoted. Its a call center environment, but as luck would have it, I am as far from the "call center environment" as I can be with my current role.
I have applied to a few other companies, however, I do not get calls for the jobs I want. I have put in for jobs lower that I'm doing now to "test the waters". Jobs comparative to what I did in college. I do get calls for those almost instantly. It would be about half of what I am making now, which I cannot do.
I am not sure what I should do that this point. I feel as if I should just wait it out and see if I can get something else in this company, that's behind the scenes. I am just over the whole customer service deal.
I have a B.S. in Business and this is pretty much technical support. Where do I go from here? Look into a Masters? Get Certifications?
You could do a lot with business degree and with your experience. How about applying to marketing, advertising or recruting? Marketing may be fun. Teaching is another consideration.
I used to work in customer service and it was pretty lousy. I had rotten working conditions, 2nd shifts, 3rd shifts, holidays, weekends, sometimes two shifts! I made very little money and was poor even with overtime.
I just started a thread on this-- customer service jobs and having a college degree. So it looks true that folks with college degrees are working customer service/ call center jobs.

Thanks in advance.
Don't blame you. All I can say is keep looking. I work in customer service for a printing/shipping store and have met the most rude, condescending people I have ever met. My job has forced me to lose hope for humanity. Definitely reaching for booze to get through the holidays. I am looking for a new job, but haven't had much luck.
Working with these customers makes me feel like I am dying inside.

Please seek psychological help for your alcoholism/depression.

Yep, B.A. Mass Communications/Radio TV/Minor in History. My area is crap for employment and I have been a CSR for two years for a department store. This job gets worse every day, from systems not working, to people not caring, it is horrible. Now, they are cutting our overtime this Christmas season because they care about our health. B.S. It is the only way to make decent money but yet they want us to work on Thanksgiving and Christmas while the physical store is closed both days. I am mentally burned out from this job and don't know how much more I can take. I got laid off from my communications job in 2009 and it has been a struggle ever since. Believe it or not, I have had worse jobs but this is the most mismanaged company I have ever seen. Supervisors are those in their early 20's with no degree and no experience and they listen to their Ipod and text all day. I have an interview on Friday and hope to God it pays well and I would get the job. It would be a pleasure to leave retail hell.
