I have a friend who just shocked me because her birthday is today and she will be very active going to a concert and then dinner. But she said she is going to work tomorrow on a Monday??? I mean after having a fun and active weekend of celebrating your birthday why get up on a MONDAY out of all days especially if your birthday fell on a saturday or sunday? Now unless you just started the job you probably will be at work but if you been at the job a while and your birthday falls on one of those days why not give yourself a three day weekend??? My birthday falls on a Monday this year and you better believe I will be taking off and giving myself a three day weekend.
My birthday is a holiday in the US - July 4 - so I automatically get the day off. Though I have heard that a lot of places will give the day before or the day after July 4 depending on when Independence Day falls off... so I'll wait and see.
However, if my birthday wasn't a national holiday; no, I wouldn't take my birthday off. I would rather use PTO for vacations or emergencies (I have health issues - so I wouldn't squander my PTO days...).
Then how is it different than putting in a vacation any other time? You said it like you have a birthday then take the monday off because you got too drunk to work the next day.
No, most adults do not put in for their birthday off. They save their vacation time to use for all those things in life that matter, from appointments to family activities, to taking a real vacation.
Um no. I've never taken a day off for my birthday except to do a weekend trip when I turned 40. Why? Because birthdays aren't a big deal. I don't need a day off to celebrate, or a day off to recover, and I'd rather save my PTO for something else.

July 4th falls on a saturday this year so that means we will get off friday which I don't like at all.

Has nothing to do with getting drunk, if you had a fun filled weekend Monday would be used a rest up day instead of waking up and going to work because I assume you would be tired.

Hmmm... hopefully by then I have a 2nd job (hopefully FT) and can take a little weekend trip for my birthday.
