What a shame the US is NOT the country it once was... We are soooo far behind the rest of the world on sooo many things...
It's a real shame. On the campaign trail, I have only seen presidential candidate Bernie Sanders address the scandal of no minimum paid parental leave in America. Bernie Sanders is polling better than any Republican candidate which should give people hope I think. Despair is not an option. Americans really want to see the country change into a country that cares and invests in its people.

Some people really just cant make it work to live on one income, and the childcare options they have are awful. Daycare prices are nuts and for what? To leave your baby in the care of people you dont know with lots of germs floating around where they easily get sick from the other kids there. Nanny prices are also over the top (i'm in boston).

Luckily i was able to have family help with my child...but the United states is simply not family friend. People say that working professionals have less kids these days if any and this is why. It seems like the people who keep popping out kids are the ones on government assistance.

edited to add if you are rich you have it a bit easier because you have the options to find a top of the line daycare or nanny...but of course it's still difficult to leave your child if you're returning to work. I guess the women who have it the easiest are the ones who can comfortably stay home and not have to worry about finances ever again because they have a highly paid partner.
Totally agree, Whatsnext75. I think this speech by presidential candidate Bernie Sanders sums it up for me. This gives me hope that America can start embracing real family values.

12 weeks is only for paid leave. Unpaid leave is often available for up to several months. I've been at companies where it was available for up to 9 months. That's very flexible.

And who will wipe your ass when you are old and frail?
You didn't come into this world w/o help, and most likely you will need help leaving it, too.

I am glad that I can contribute a son and a daughter to potentially help you out.

You have any idea how much it costs raising children?
While you selfishly avoid the expenses, by your own choosing or not.

So, don't preach!!!!

The organization may exclude a segment of the workforce because they may choose a more non child making friendly environment.
even if the organization brings in a temp/replacement worker, it is hard top imagine they will be able to operate at the same level of performance as the regular employee.

How do you know this person doesn't have children? Maybe their sense of fairness in the workplace is simply more enlightened that yours. And talk about being preachy.

Congratulations on living up to the stereotype of the entitled presumptuous attitude of parents who think they are doing the world a favor by procreating. Perhaps instead you should be grateful to the rest of society that pays taxes to fund their education (private or not) and other services.

Socialism and fascism are not good family values.

You do know that you've associated opposites, right?

The GOP candidates are looking to knock each other out right now, so we can't take any of them and their issues seriously yet. They're all looking to fault each other.

Living in Boston is a choice, not a requirement. Moving to an area where you could live on one income is an example of a sacrifice you're not willing to make for your children. I know and am related to several people in southern California that make those same excuses. They routinely tell me how "lucky" I was to stay home, forgetting that we LEFT SoCal to make it happen.
