My worst coworker was a woman I worked with at a convenience store about twenty-five years ago.

Long story short, she had a thing for this guy who also worked there, but the guy liked me. So this woman thought she'd make my life miserable. A lot of it was petty and juvenile, but some really did make me fear for my safety a little bit. Among other things, she dumped a can of garbage over my head, menaced me with a knife in the stockroom, prank called my house at all hours, and even showed up there one time.

I filed complaints against her with the store manager, and eventually, she either quit or was fired; I don't know which. She was still allowed to come into the store after that, though. Whenever I'd wait on her, she'd file complaints against me, saying I was "rude" or that she "didn't like my attitude".

This woman was married with about four kids at home. Also (and I have no problem with age differences in relationships), she was about forty years old. Meanwhile, the guy she liked was 19, and I was 21. Also, I'm a guy, too. You'd think this woman would know the score on so many different levels there, but apparently, she had no idea, or just didn't care.

The other guy and I eventually both quit the store ourselves; it was the only way to be rid of her. Also, we did end up getting together for about a year afterwards.

-- The bosses who complained to HR that i came in late even though i have a medically documented sleep disorder and was literally on-call, happily, 24/7. and never "relieving"' someone from a shift. (But co-workers and subordinates were awesome with this!)

-- My boss who wanted to give me Ritalin because of my sleep disorder to keep me awake.

-- The "suck up" who would run down a list of ALL her accomplishments EVERYDAY to me and my bosses. What made me sicker is that THIS WORKED and she quickly got promoted!! Meanwhile, i just humbly did my job without seeking fan-fair because it was my job.

-- All of the men who have sexually harassed me- from trying to corner me and kiss me the day after i turned 18, to the boss who kept porn on our shared computer, the many men who stare at my breasts and didn't even have the foresight to *pretend* that they weren't, and everyone in-between.

-- The ones who seemed to be on too much Adderall and would not SHUT UP!

-- When i worked in mental health evaluations, the MANY snobby psychologists and social workers who i had to listen to talking about patients with mental illnesses in a condescending way because they thought they were "above them." And misdiagnose people who "tried weed twice" as SUBSTANCE ABUSERS!

-- The many "mothers" who had to leave early or skip often to be noticeable yet never got reprimanded because our bosses were also moms. And they asked me like once a week "when are you going to have a baby?" :roll eyes:

-- The coffee shop owner who hired his niece who didn't speak English! I had to interpret so it was like doing both our jobs at once. And because the customers were so angry with this, tips plummeted.

-- The princess who refused to come to work at same coffee house when it rained. She would even call to ask if we would be "open" when it did!?

I am SURE there are more!!! I have worked with many interesting people over almost all demographics.....

And despite the stereotypes, MOST people who work in mental health are just like any other profession. But there are 2 other kinds:

1. The ones who are certifiable insane themselves and
2. The ones who think they are better than other people, especially the patients, and were probably drawn to the profession out of a compulsion to judge other people.

We have a few guys who are pretty bad, I'll go with two of them. One guy shows up 1 hour late everyday (sometimes still buzzed), first thing he does is make coffee, grab a newspaper, then sits all day till a package needs to be delivered to someone in the building....one day a package arrived the size of a loaf of bread, weighed maybe a couple pounds...out he comes with a hand truck, lifts the package with one hand, places on the hand truck, and off he goes....been like this for 40 years, nobody says boo. Guy number two.....just a nasty disposition, has made treats to coworkers (once getting in their space and shoving with his body), is inappropriate with female coworkers, curses at the students, and is kept away from the public who enter the building as much as possible....yet the administrators do nothing, and they are aware of the issues.

.

Sorry,

Are you complaining about your bosses actually expecting you to come to work on time and/or stay awake while at work?

They have every right to expect this.

I have 2:

#1 - Typical know it all, and has to one up everybody. Naps after lunch and blames his "sugar", complains about #2 all day.

#2 - complains about everything, especially #1, constantly looking for some type of revenge on everybody, makes excuses for why he was drunk the night before but he doesnt drink and goes to church every Sunday, spends his paycheck on lottery tickets and liquor, and wants to borrow money Monday morning, thinks hes "entitled", oh I could go on.....

You guys have inspired me! I'll add to the list.

The Mooch - This is the one that is ALWAYS broke and crying to others about it hoping they will loan some money (and in the case of this particular person, many people did and never got paid back).
The Talker - The one who NEVER shuts up. They walk around all day hanging out at people's desks chatting and never really do any work. They always seem to get away with it as well.
The Muncher - This person ALWAYS has food on their desk. Usually obnoxious food like chips or hard candy and they munch on it all day, so all you hear is crunching.
The Smooth-Talker - Similar to The Talker, but is more ambitious. This person shmoozes up to management and gets ahead by doing exactly nothing.
The Singer - Usually one who should be nowhere near a mic. This person listens to music and either hums or sings along.
The Spy - I like to call this one Gladys. They watch EVERYTHING that goes on and report it to anyone in power who will listen.
The Long-Luncher - This person usually takes a long lunch every day and then brings their food back in to eat. And it usually does NOT smell good.
The Poo Stirrer - Loves to start trouble. This one will play people against each other and then act completely innocent when found out.
The Drama Queen - Everything is always a mess in this person's life. And they are more than happy to talk about it constantly. You will get to hear every email, text and phone conversation that has ever been had about their issues.
The Animal Lover - This person has more pictures of their pets on their desk than most people have of their family and they want to do nothing but talk about their "fur babies" <gag>.
The Loudmouth - You can hear this person no matter where they are in the office. They love the sound of their own voice and they want everybody to hear it!
The Sickly - This is the person that is sick ALL the time. They usually have to leave the office for doctors appointments and rarely take any measures to keep from spreading their germs.

Contributed by Mochamajesty

The Whiner - self-explanatory. I cannot stand those who whine about petty things. No, I don't care if if your work BFF is not speaking to you.
The Absentee - Especially those who use "the kids" as an excuse, or who magically get sick around holidays or payday.
The Smoker - Stinky and the incessant breaks.

Contributed by cayennev8

The Victim - This is the one who blames everyone else for their performance issues. They are always being threatened, harassed or discriminated against. This person usually spends a lot of time with HR and guards their work like it's Fort Knox because they are afraid of being fired.

Contributed by Avalon08

The Thief (can't believe I forgot this one!) - Very sneaky, this one. They will watch for your hiding places and take your snacks, drinks or even money when they know you aren't looking.

Several years ago for a brief time I had worked at a small pet food company in Colorado. Had this one supervisor and boy did she had some serious issues.

1. Screaming and cussing at other co-workers and even the vendors over the most little of things.

2. Being obsessed with "It has to look right"....for example if one is seen drinking a soda she would demand that person to drink an energy drink or a cup of coffee because "it looks better". Better to who ?? Heaven forbid if one would go to McDonalds for lunch. She would demand that they go to Sonic instead...it just looks better. Whatever !!

3. Obsessed with death. Always talking about death. When the Aurora, Colorado movie theater shooting had taken place all she did for a time was talk about was James Holmes and Jessica Ghawi to the point where it became scary and out of reality such as "...I can't eat lunch today I miss seeing Jessica on TV even though I had never met her..she was so sweet...so sad !!!!" . Oh really ?? The reality was that unless you knew her personally nobody in Denver knew who Jessica Ghawi was before the shootings as she was just an intern and not actually on the air. She also had talked about the Columbine shootings too saying how she had went to that school even though Columbine had opened long after she had graduated from high school.

4. Assuming stuff. When a co-worker said he was going to Las Vegas for his vacation she went off screaming at him calling him a "sinner" and how he was an alcoholic and must had a gambling problem because he was going to Vegas. Another woman had to take a day off because her dad was dying. This woman had to nerve to call up the hospital to "confirm" but when they refused to give her info ( HIPPA ) she called the woman a liar and assumed she had made up the "sick dad" thing so refused to give her the day off.

5. Hitting herself in her office. All of us had seen it and yes we went to the higher-up about it but they choose to do nothing. They just didn't want to get involved.

Wasn't at this place for very long but this supervisor ?? I was told that about a year after I had left she had committed suicide. Can't help but wonder had this place did get involved and got her help...maybe.....

The coworker who also had a night job and who'd come in to work just to sleep in his cubicle.

They coworker who used his company-owned desk phone to argue loudly with his wife/ex-wife over divorce stuff. Every day. For months.

The doddering old drunk who kept a bottle in his car and took repeated 'smoke breaks' during the day.

The young crackhead who'd do the same.

The executive who finally got canned after being caught surfing porn on his company-owned pc not once, not twice, but three times.

The secretary who, after being advised everyone should look their best for a CEO's upcoming visit, went out and bought a fur coat using her corporate-issued credit card.

The employee who sent an email concerning some coworker's 'going away' luncheon to 'ALL', as in everyone in the corporation. Thus starting a cascading chain of replies to 'ALL'. Like over 8000 people...

I've worked with a thief. Dubbed "The Lunch Bag Bandit" by coworkers. The man had quite an appetite and would steal several lunches every day, including not returning tupperware containers.

I just shrugged, brought a non-refrigerated lunch and locked mine in my locker.

I was always glad I didn't smoke because 2-3 guys were always bumming cigarettes. They seemed to be heavy smokers without ever actually buying cigarettes. They didn't buy, so never returned smokes. The smokers just kept handing cigarettes out to the beggars anytime they asked for one.
