The other day I saw a co-worker punched by a bully co-worker. Well, I HATE bullies and the assault was reported, but then I in my anger stepped up and challenged the bully to "step outside and see me!" Now, my boss, and my boss's boss, put me on blast. How the hell could this be when I was NOT the one who caused the problem?

Because you threatened someone. Obviously what he did was wrong, but what you did is also wrong (to a lesser extent). The person that was assaulted should have called the police. The best thing you could have done (and hopefully what you take away from this) is to report the incident and become a witness if your employer launches an investigation or takes reports.

you unnecessarily escalated the situation, so now you are in trouble. should have just reported the incident and left it at that.

You shouldn't have said anything.

1. You acted unprofessional.
2. You threatened another employee.
3. You are the problem that your management is handling.

You inserted yourself into a confrontation that had nothing to do with you.

I think everyone knows you meant well, but you should have just let the company handle the assault their way since it had already been reported.

Now you may also pose a liability risk for the company because you challenged the bully.

You are as much a bully as the original bully now you have to deal with the situation.

was the co-worker being hit a nice looking female? Otherwise I can't understand why you would involve yourself in something that has nothing to do with you. You risk your job for nothing by trying to see who has the bigger "you know whats"

Beating up a bully for punching someone does not make you a bully. It makes you justice!

Workplace violence of any kind is not tolerated. Next time confront him at the bar.

The way you handle conflicts with other adults in the work place is not the same way you would handle conflicts in the street or as kids in the school yard.
