40K (plus 3k bonus). I'm in the Chicago burbs and I work for a large company in purchasing. I always felt like that is a pretty good salary working in a cubical placing orders and answering emails all day but now I'm not so sure since I have a friend don't the same thing making 45K and said it was **** money.

a good salary is relative to each individual. there's people that say you can't live in SF if you make under 250k a year; and others get by on 50k..
Of course it's a salary. Is it a *goodI salary? Well, that depends on cost of living, how many people you are supporting, what your additional living expenses are, etc etc. It's more than I make right now, and I live in an expensive area and am supporting kids and a husband. I'd love to have 40K coming in. You're making pretty good money for what doesn't sound like a taxing job.
Good salaries are all a matter of context and perspective.
A guy making $45k doesn't have much room to put down someone make $43k.
