College freshman, every summer and high school freshman for the two years I taught bio. Why? Are they magical somehow?
Well, they're a lot like high school students or so I've heard, so that's a good indicator that you really can teach. If you just advised dissertation writing or supervised courses at the graduate level, I might be able to argue that it's not really teaching, but you teach. Are you rare?

I teach oceanography and research/thesis capstones to high school seniors.

Just courious, why would you assume him teaching freshmen is rare? Are you assuming that freshmen are only taught by TAs? Certainly wasn't true where I went, nor for DD. I only had one TA as a freshman and she was far better at teaching her subject than the full prof who taught the other section.
I think it's possible but I said that rather flippantly to a dance teacher once and I could see it really hurt her feelings. I felt bad. Be careful who you say it to!!
btw, I wasn't a great Acft Mechanic but I was a great instructor for the subject! Teaching it made me a better mech!
