I retired last August 21st. Due to my position in the company, I actually let the company President know 18 months in advance. I worked a full day on my last day. I actually started transitioning out about 30 days prior, so I didn't have much to do the last day but say some good-byes.

I have always worked a full day on my last day. My mindset has ALWAYS been that I am being paid by the company for that day and owe them a days work. I had 1 position where I gave a 6 week notice, and when I had 1 week left the company President came into my office and said; "you're not really leaving are you? It sure seems like you're working like you're not going anywhere"! I told him I am being paid to do a job and will do it to the best of my ability until the last minute.

It's just the way I am wired, and would expect our Sons to act the same way.

Work?

I typically just walked around and talked to folks. I would usually just go home after a last lunch with the co-workers. In most cases, I didn't even walk back into the office. Just went from the soon-to-be co-workers' car right to mine and left.

On my last day, I showed up hungover, and drank on my lunch break, and DUI'ed it home.

I'm always willing to work the full day, but usually they've allowed me to go after 1/2 day or 3/4 day. Unless you're wrapping up some massive project, there usually isn't a reason to stick around the full day.

My last job I stayed at work all day cause we were going to happy hour right after. Was I working? Not so much. If I didn't have plans with my coworkers after I probably would have left an hour early, prob not anything more than that.

I haven't had a good experience here, and simply want to leave immediately after mandatory HR exit and anything I need to tie off with manager. I'm basically telling them I'm out by noon at the latest, handing my keys over, and heading out the door!

How long have you worked on your last day?
You work your full shift as scheduled, if they release you, then go. Your experience their does not matter, you agreed to work until a stated date. If they scheduled you till four, you man up and work till four.
