I am currently employed in the field of Marketing, but am looking to relocate to either Texas or California. Like many of us, I've had trouble landing any kind of interview. I have had a couple here locally in Wisconsin, and one in California. All of these interviews were long phone interviews, and not face-to-face. Frustrated, I decided to seek out a staffing agency in hopes they could help me out. I contacted a major staffing agency, and was told that they would not be able to help me out unless I moved there first.
I told them upfront that I am readily available to fly out for interviews (on my own dime) and am confused because all of the interviews I've had within the past few years have been over the phone to start. I was wondering if anyone else has run into this? I can't see moving somewhere without having a job lined up.
They get so many wannabe relocators (who really won't and don't) that they have learned not to waste their time until the person is in front of them. Just a fact of today's world of employment. Keep looking, you'll find some willing to work with you long distance.
