No, in that (and similar) line of work, identifying characteristics such as tattoos are discouraged. You don't want people to notice you, you don't want to 'stand out'. You want to be the 'gray man', that no one even remembers having seen...

Reminds me of a favorite sushi restaurant we used to go to every week. The most popular waiter was Indonesian and had tribal tattoos on his arms. After working there a couple years he got bumped up to manager; the owners immediately made him start wearing long-sleeved shirts.

You really don't have to understand it. Just say, "Sorry, we think your tattoos suck, we can't use you."

I am covered in tattoos but can hide them while wearing long sleeves if I so desire. When I move in different circles or travel I like being able to blend in if need be. I'd love a neck tattoo but that is too risky even for me.

I would have hired her. Why punish her forever for choices she made in the past? So heartless.

This is a generational issue depending on industry too. I have no problems with people with lots of tattoos. I have none and never wanted any.

I judge people by their body of work and how much intelligence they bring.

People with tattoos and piercings seem to have no common sense sometimes.

Sorry, but if you insist on having multiple tattoos in areas you can't easily cover up, expect to have a more difficult time finding jobs. Its just the nature of the beast, the beast being society. If you want to have tattoos, accept the reality of the situation or don't get them to start with.

When I was younger, I was the ONLY female in all of my major classes (computer science and engineering). I was a trailblazer and accepted that it would be harder for me - and it was. But I persevered.

However my gender was not a choice - like tattoos and piercings are. Race is not a choice. Ethnicity is not a choice. Religion is sort of a choice but mostly really not as the vast majority of people in the world follow the religion their parents imposed on them.

But getting tattoos and piercings IS a choice, and where they are or how visible they are is also a choice. If you want an office job, keep them under cover or don't get them to start with. If you do have visible tattoos and piercings, get over yourself. It is going to be harder to find a job outside of a tattoo parlor, betting establishment, pawnbroker, bail bondsman, payday loan place, strip joint, and other shady businesses.

A few years ago when I was still an active cyclist, we had a young woman come on one of the female cyclist forums I was on posting wanting to know what seat she should buy so she wouldn't have to remove her piercing (which was embedded in a very tender private place for a female). She was told there was no such seat that she could safely ride on with that thing still in. She was told that because it is true - even the seats with voids in them that are supposed to provide relief to tender bits are unsafe if you have a ring installed there, due to the likely chance that it will catch and tear if you shift or fall.

She got all up on her high horse because she thought we were being unfairly bigoted against piercings.

Might as well start calling your bicycle bigoted, LOL! It simply is not safe to ride a bike with that sort of hardware installed. You are going to get sore/hurt at best. Physics doesn't care about your "right to personal expression".

I'm simply telling you that YOU are uptight about others being uptight---get it?
