A year ago I would have said yes, but I'm happy where I am now. I've tortured my body in a manual labor job before, and am making great money at a young age now. It's a good medium.

No. I'm getting too old for that crap. I've been doing physical labor my whole life, though nothing as extreme as those jobs listed in the OP. And I'm starting to feel the combined weight of all the little hurts through the years.

That's the plan I had when I came down to Tejas. It got shot to hell due to the various environments I was in where H2S was constantly around. Sometimes it was so bad my H2S monitor would start beeping as soon as I stepped out of the truck. Even with a respirator on, that crap builds up within your own clothing and you take it with you wherever you go. There were numerous times where I found myself pulling over on a busy 2 lane highway because vertigo had set in. One time while waiting for it to pass, I passed out on the shoulder. Dunno how long I was out.

Plus the labor intensive work I put in took a massive toll on my lower back. As I stated in a previous post, my back was already shot before coming down. All I did was make it worse and now I move around like an extremely old man. The pain is so severe at times that OTC pain killers don't work. Narcotic pain killers dont' seem to work either. My knees are also wrecked due to arthritis and banging them into solid metal objects. There's no way in hell I'll go back to doing oilfield work.

If i wanted the challenge, and have something to fall back on, like a good investment plan after i quit, it would be very tempting.

Of course, wear and tear is something serious to consider. A labor intensive job will leave you applying for ssdisabilifor benefits.
