In early March I applied for a job and got a call back the same day for a on the spot phone interview from the lead business development person. The phone interview lasted 45 minutes and was very conversational with questions and answers from both sides. The next day I got an email instructing me to get two references to email letters of recommendation.
The following week I heard from the CEO's assistant requesting my availability for an in-person interview with the CEO. (This is where maybe I messed up)
I indicated that my availability for the dates offered up was open and that I was available for the date and time that works best for him. Since then, the interview got rescheduled twice due to unexpected meetings and an unexpected flight to another city on their part.
Is there something else I should be saying other than indicating my schedule is flexible and asking that calendar invites be sent on the day that works best for them?
Example: You are job hunting and the company asks you to indicate your availability the week of May 22 to schedule an interview.
I usually try to schedule on an off day for that window of opportunity they give me. On several previous jobs, I always had one weekday off. So I'd tell that day would work best.
If I don't have a usual weekday off, I narrow it down to a specific day I pick at random and let them know that day works best. I'll ask for that day off from current work ahead of time so I can go to that interview (without specifying I need day off for interview).
I will just provide them with my availability for the week. If there's certain time during the day you don't want them to contact you, then don't put it down as available. Don't over complicate this.
Give them some specifics. I know it seems like it should be better if you say "oh, anytime that week is good!" but it doesn't register as well as actual info. Tell them "The morning of 5/22, all day on 5/23 or 5/24, and the morning of 5/26" (or whatever fits into your actual schedule, of course) and see what happens.
