America mantra. No work,no pay. It's that simple.
Vacation makes no profit for a business. It's a liability. Again,it's that simple.

I've stopped being around folks who brag about their benefits while I'm simply trying to benefit by having a job. Period. Every day is a question of..Is today the day they close up shop or go on a firing spree. Some of us just want a paycheck...Our sleeptime is our vacation.

I have heard how it's very common for Europeans to get several months off work and travel abroad.

Personally, I wish there were a law requiring companies to give every employee at least a month in vacation regardless of their job.
It's not that the US companies are stingy. It is because Socialist Europeans don't want to work

Pros and cons. We have the 9 largest companies in the world by market value so our favoring employers has resulted in our companies being stronger. In the long run, I think we have the better system even though I can understand the other viewpoint.

By the way, I work for an international engineering consulting company and I do get 9 weeks of holiday per year in addition to national holidays so you can get a good vacation package with the right companies. I should note, I do a lot of traveling and away from home far too much.

Wanting to take a vacation once in awhile or a long weekend makes you a socialist who doesn't want to work? What a bizarre thing to say.

Why is the U.S so stingy when it comes to vacation time?

Because our corporate overlords want it that way. How dare you think you matter and deserve a life of leisure. You were born to work for them so they can enjoy vacations.
