Interesting. I definitely feel more stress and pressure the more money i make, so even though i have never taken a pay cut, i could see how that could feel liberating. as long as you are happy and can afford it, that's awesome!
Might mean getting a vehicle repo'd. But rent is fairly cheap and I've got a motorcycle I'm waiting for the title to get processed on. So if it has to be done, then I'm quite sure I'm ready to take the cut.

Yeah, I think what some posters missed is that I no longer have the golden handcuffs. I can change jobs again and make the same six figure salary going into an office job anywhere. At any time if my job is not working out for me anymore, I just start looking again, wait for an offer, and move on.
With my previous job the mega high pay for my position and wfh benefit kept me tied down. Now that I don't have that, I don't feel like I have to stay at a job where I'm working for a moron.
If it works for you, then it's okay. I hope you aren't trying to make yourself feel better. I've never been captive to a job based on salary. I have to build my retirement. I can't take less money at this point in my life.
I think pay cuts are fine if you can afford them and the benefit to your work/life balance is significant. If you're making $150k/yr, living frugally, and then drop to an $85k/yr position to offload stress and job fatigue, I think it can be extremely beneficial to your well being. However, I can understand why someone making $60k/yr would not be comfortable with giving that up for $35k/yr. On the other hand, if your overhead expenses are low, I'm all for living a frugal livelihood. My fiance and I plan on it after we retire. We're going to sell our home and travel the country and live out of a cheap RV.
