Hello,

I was so excited when I got a new job 3 weeks ago. That has changed. The women I work with are just mean and two-faced. I'm 35 years old and I thought this type of behavior was over after highschool. These women are all old enough to be my mother - I guess I didn't expect that from older women.

How do I deal with this?

Interact with them only on a professional level and only as needed. That is pretty much it.

I encountered this at a place I worked - it was the HR manager. I never had issues working with anyone before and couldn't understand this woman's behavior towards me. After a particular incident that left me fuming and annoyed to no end, one of my male coworkers asked me why i was letting this woman get to me so much. I gave that some thought and decided the best way to deal with this person was to kill them with kindness. It actually turned out to be rather funny because I could see her getting mad when she couldn't get a rise out of me. It's worth a try.

Talk to them one on one like a grown adult.

Then escalate to supervisor then HR if no resolution.

Look for another job, you only been there three weeks and can leave it off resume.

I don't know why everyone thinks certain behavior is for "high school" only. It's not high school, it's human nature. The news and workplaces are full of grown adults who gossip, backstab each other, mean, two-faced, climbers, liars, cliquish, exclusive, lazy, etc.

If that kind of behavior actually stopped in high school, the whole world would be perfect and everyone would be nice to each other.

Anyway, see how long you can last. If this continues to stress you out, no choice but to leave.

People who are mean and two-faced are people who are stuck where they are. They can't devote their energies to anything positive (like finding a new job that suits them better), so they let their emotions all hang out at the office.

Imagine having a boss like that... my boss is a bitter whiner who (I'm discovering) is also two-faced. The other day she was saying really mean things about our janitor to me (like, making fun of how he walked, and not in a lighthearted way) and hen when he came in to our suite she immediately was talking all sweet and nice to him. Ugh.

No, the behavior doesn't stop after high school.

This thread is closed. It's a duplicate topic, as female versus male co-workers has been discussed many times in prior threads. Also, threads such as this one usually devolve into blatant gender-bashing and that is not permitted.
