I am currently working in toxic hell.....it is has all the makings of a "Jerry Springer" show. Physical fights between employees, bullying, nepotism, promotions based on who's butt you kiss, poor leadership, calls from Italian Mafia family members, shut downs over employees threatening to shoot other employees and the list just goes on and on. Sadly we are part of a Union so most of these people end up on Administrative leave (AKA a paid vacation) and then end up right back at work. The other day my boss came in screaming at the top of her lungs about another member of "leadership" calling her a "F%@$% B!!!". The job pays excellent and benefits are great but every single day is nothing but another drama. If this wasn't a mental facility (HIPAA), they could turn it into a reality show. So you may ask why I don't just get another job? The problem is that there aren't that many around here and I would more then likely have to take a $5/hr pay cut or worse. This is like being on an episode of Survivor except people don't get voted off the island because they are protected by the Union. Has anyone had similar experiences and if so what did you do? Any advice is helpful. Yes I AM looking for another job, even if it means moving!

physical fights? Employees threatening to shoot one another? The Cosa Nostra?

I'd walk up to the biggest, baddest person there and punch him square in the nose. That way, people are less likely to mess with you. Learned that on A&E.

Yeah, I'd be out fast. Best of luck.

You're already looking for another job.

You pretty much have to put it on the scale and decide if the extra $5 an hour and job security covers the poor conditions.

Otherwise just disengage yourself and take amusement at the crazy antics. Mental health facility? Sounds like the inmates are running the asylum literally.

You need to stay at this job, carry around a camera pen or other concealed recording device and log all of the aforementioned activities and more! Hold onto it until your next job then release all the good stuff periodically on a blog or vodcast. I'd think you'd get a lot of reader/viewership and thus advertising would pay pretty well.

Sounds like you work in a call-center, I would say to you to get out of there as soon as you can.

Careful that the lack of professionalism or some scandal originating out of this toxic environment does not affect your career long term. You can get sucked into things that will be public record if involve they patients.

Beyond the pay cut have you looked at your career and analyze whether this would bands you versus where you want to be in 10 years?

I'd hide a camera if it's like this. Why? Just to have something to show people who think they have a bad job and say "Here's what I left, how does this compare?"

But since you are already looking, I'd simply say "I wish you the best"
