I get calls from recruiters when I am at work when I am right next to coworkers, bosses, and people above me. I find it to be very awkward because if you are listenening it can seem obvious it is a recruiter. They ask if this is a good time to talk and I have to always say “no it isn’t” in kind of a low voice or “I’m not looking.” Anyone else feel the same way?

It's not really awkward. Just say "I can't talk right now, can I call you back later?" Don't use a low voice, don't act different, don't make it sound awkward. If anyone asks who it was, just say it's a personal call. Recruiters definitely understand and will leave it at that and call back later.

Co-workers have no way of knowing who is on the other end of the call.

Are you answering your personal phone in front of these people at work or are you giving them your work ph# and they're calling you at work?If it's the 1st choice...I thought you're not suppose to answer your personal cell while working.

Not awkward at all.

Its an employees market.

Never let an employer think you are an annuity.

Employment At Will works both ways.

I get compensated for using my personal cell for work.

I do not answer calls on my personal cell from numbers I don’t know. They can pile up in voicemail and I’ll call them later.

The good ones will leave a message, the scams don't (Usually)

I get it all the time. I always just say, "I'm not in the market at the present time." Recruiters know what's up.

I'd just say that I am at work and can't talk right now, but will be at lunch from 12-1 or whatever or get off from work at 5 and would love to talk to them then. Or if I am not interested, I tell them that right up front.
