I'm a "Commodities Relocation Engineer" Make in the low $40K range. Depends on the economy and how hard I want to run. Love my job but would rather work days. Maybe one of these years... Momof2DRW, I see the same thing at my company; we have drivers that don't want to hustle, either...

Last year, I had a total of four jobs. One lasted the ENTIRE year, one was for three months, one was for one month, and the last one was for three months. With all three jobs, I made about 24K.

The one for the entire year, I consider my "main" job, or primary job. It's an overnight schedule, and I pull freight...and get it from the receiving area to the shelf. That opens up other hours of the day for me to work other jobs. The one that lasted a month was a full time job as a produce manager (I was wise enough NOT to quit my other job while I "tested" that one out!)

I was a hospital-based Coder/Abstractor when I lived in the Seattle area (up til 2006) and made $40k, which was living paycheck to paycheck with the cost of living there (we needed to use the local food bank nearly every month, along with Energy Assistance). In 2007 I was a Coding Consultant and traveled the country, making $72k...but got very weary of sleeping in hotels and being apart from my family. I'm now a Remote Coder living in semi-rural Indiana (avg house here costs maybe $70k) making $52k, which is more than comfortable. Working at home is a real blessing with the outrageous cost of fuel.

I have the credentials as you Crew Chief, however have hung up my driving gloves to enjoy being a Pet Care Technician Had a raise since last year so I anticipate between $15,000-$20,000 this year.

Then again I have hidden benefits. If I decide to leave town, there's always a place for my dogs to stay at a reduced rate. If the two legged clients drive me batty, I go play with the four legged ones

I'm so discourage and often I feel like I"m a failure!
What do u guys do here?
If you feel you should be making more, I would suggest looking around somewhere else. In today's economy, that might take you a while, but for now you should be thankful you have a job. There are many people these days who can't say that, and would be more than willing to work for $38,000 a year.

I'm a 30 year veteran teacher, Masters Degree + tons of continuing education. Started in 1978 at $11.000 year, now at $84,000. Husband has an MBA and is making quite a bit less, he's underpaid for his degree and experience, but hated corporate world and found a job as Business Manager for private company and loves it! We're more than happy with his vacation time, working conditions and sense of job fulfillment than the bottom line $$.
