Wondering if there is a woolworths still in your city or town?
I just heard on the radio that there are still Woolworths in Germany and England. I did nt' know this. I remember my mom used to take me to the Woolworths cafeteria for pastry, back when i was a kid. ;-)
just curious...
It makes me feel good to know, that the next time, I go abroad and someone asks me what america is known for, I can say woolworths, when they sneer and say mcdonalds. ;-)
Gone from the US since, what, 1990-something. I always liked Woolworth's as a kid, sorry to see them go. Although they did become less "relevant" and outdated toward the end, just didn't have much I wanted/needed.
Woolworth's was an upscale dollar store almost towards the end. They should re-brand and come back. Their time has come again. My gram worked there for decades. I remember visiting her at her work and many of my christmas gifts I am sure came from there. I liked the chain esp. the downtown chicago location.
I too remember the cafe in Woolworths. They started closing stores one by one in the 90s like the other poster said. Woolworths is now Foot Locker and focuses on sporting goods.
There are still Woolworths in Mexico, Germany, Austria and untill 3 months ago the UK.
Great time capsule. They were the good ol days and they will never be back.

My gram worked at the cafe. I remember sitting at those stools and she would make me stuff to eat.
