Over at a local Mall there is a shop with magazines and Newspapers. I go by the shop on the way to work every morning and evening. There is the same man there every day, he is the owner. The shop is open 12 hours a day 7 days a week. I asked the man if there is anyone else working there and his answer was no, he is the only employee. He has not closed ever, except on three Holidays. I asked him what would happen if he was sick or wanted to take the day off. He says he has not taken an offical day off for 10 years (except for the three annual Holidays). He works sick if necessary.
Do you know if anyone who works so hard and for so many hours?
Yes, my husband. He leave for work as a truck driver at 11:30 PM, and comes home the next day around 4:30 PM, on a good day. He eats promptly by 5:00 PM and is in bed by 6:30 for 4.5 hrs. sleep. He unloads a full size trailer of heavy boxes by hand each day, along with driving about four hundred miles. He does take a cat nap when he gets to his first delivery. He has not taken a sick day in over 10 years. He doesn't get sick often but goes to work with whatever comes his way. This includes many a bad snow storm.
He's a good man, I'll keep him. And even though he is a truck driver, I know that if my girls ever marry, one thing they won't settle for is a lazy man.
I don't know why hours like this surprise you? Many business owners work this way. I know I did for the better part of 30 years. My son on Wall Street does too even often sleeping in his office. At least I didn't have as much stress as he does.
i agree with goldie, many business owners work crazy hours, 20 yrs ago, i worked 3 jobs and went to college part-time..4 hrs of sleep a night.
thats why i have a very short fuse, with lazy bastards sucking off the taxpayer nipple(someone faking a "disability" or welfare fraud)
i believe this is the country of hope and opportunity, anyone can make something of themselves.

I make it this guy is working 84 hours a week. That is doable, I doubt 110 hours is, year in year out. I have done 102 hours a week for like a couple of months at sea. You are a total basket case and will do everthing not repeat it. That actually comes out to like 3 hours total sleep a day, more like in my case 2 one and half hour cat naps. You are a walking Zombie after a few weeks.
I knew a Korean guy who ran a small corner grocery and he did the same thing, only the wife and kids also manned the store. Again you are talking something in the 80's hours a week, not something up in the hundreds. Those few hours different per day is the matter between life and death.
I did 80 hour weeks in many situations for years on end. It can be done, not much fun after awhile but you can function.
My Mom. She held down two jobs and was a single mother of five. Her day job started at 8 a.m. and she'd get home around 5:30 p.m. Then she'd head out to her evening job around 7 p.m. and get home around 1 a.m.
The one thing she taught all of us was not to be afraid of hardwork.
