I have someone on my staff that supposedly goes to the same school as an applicant. But that said staff member states that her has never seen him around.
Call the school's registrar's office and ask to verify their enrollment. Some schools now use a third-party service like DegreeVerify or a similar one, and you have to pay I think, for them to process the verification request.
I definitely wouldn't exclude someone from consideration based on one person's observations. The person you are asking may not be on campus that much themselves, or may not be in the same classes or years. There were about 150 students in my undergrad college department and I didn't know all of them, and that is even with most of us in the art studios almost 24/7.
Maybe I was wrong, but I took the first post to mean a high school student. I'm not sure that any high school would verify someone was a student there due to various security issues.
Oh, if its high school, then I agree, what difference does it make? Its probably safe to assume they are attending a school. Does it matter if its this one or that one? Generally kids don't get to pick so its not like which school they attend has any reflection on their character or intellect or anything.
Wouldn't employers have records of schools their employees are attending? Most applications ask for this to determine if the applicant received a H.S. Diploma/GED, etc. or is overqualified.
The subject of the enquiry is an applicant not an employee.
