They are both crass, dictatorial types with egos the size of elephants. They will either become BFFs or enemies.
Duterte isn't stupid though, I'm sure he knows he can't be making insulting comments anymore. He'll lose his US aid benefits, they get around 175 million in aid money pretty much every year.
Actually, the US should stop giving money to ungrateful aholes like this guy.
Duterte is a maniac. Appeasing him personally wouldn't do good to the Philippines or the US. That said, the US will continue to support the Philippines no matter what president they have. It's part of the geopolitical game in Asia.

Trump is finishing a tower in Manila this year I believe. Duterte didn't like Obama and if he wants to try and start off on the right foot with Trump it can do nothing but help both countries.
