I'm American, and before I went to Europe, I could not stop talking about it with friends and family -- and the trip was planned 2 years before going. When I finally traveled Europe for two and a half weeks, it lived up to my hype, and then some. I went to Dublin, London, Amsterdam, Paris, Nice, Rome, and Barcelona.
If you're European, did you have a similar experience to mine, or no?
It's impossible to measure fun and excitement since it's all relative, but do Europeans get as excited and have as much fun when visiting the United States as Americans do when visiting Europe?
Paul, I agree, but hype can be judged. Do Europeans hype up their trip to the States with friends and family? ...and during their visit, do they feel they overrated their hype, underrated their hype, or was their hype accurate?
balancing relativity with reality...
I'm painting this picture that American's hype up Europe and have a more sensational experience when visiting Europe than Europeans do with America. I just don't know if it's true because like you said Paul, how do we judge this? I really don't know, but I'm still curious.
Another excuse for Europeans and Americans to get at each other throats more like!
I'm excited on every holiday.
It's not an America vs. Europe thread. It's a user experience thread. Ask Fareed Zakaria, I guarantee he can find a way to measure the user experience of international travelers.

That's a lot of ground to cover in 2-1/2 weeks! A little over 2 days per destination. How much did you really see in each place?
Before I went to Europe I was pretty excited, but thinking back not as super excited as I was to go to Disney World in Florida, because it was my favorite place that being Disneyland but super sized.

Ruth, I'm a very fast individual. Saw the most important main tourist attractions in each city. It's not as superficial as the time I had implies. I hit over 90% of the items on my itinerary. Had more fun than I thought in most of the cities.
