Well, they're both phenomenal cities in their own right. I guess I like the "feel" of Buenos Aires more, and I like the low-cost lifestyle one can have there; Barcelona is quite a bit more expensive. That being said, I lived in BA for a while, but spent only a few days in Barcelona, so I am biased...
Life in Barcelona is much more first world in terms of public services, telecommunications, public transit, housing, general upkeeping of the city, shopping, safety, attitudes, even the cars you see on the road. Buenos Aires is cheaper generally speaking but apartments for foreigners (most other rentals are old and badly kept) are expensive and imported goods are scarce and pricey.
The economy is also much more stable in Spain despite high unemployment rates.
Buenos Aires is more interesting, if too expensive then Cordoba or Mendoza, the south. Barcelona is expensive, first world, not very different from many EEC cities and too many tourists that altered the city....plus, lots of punk tourists raising hell, drinking bouts, etc.
Barcelona was always a city with very few tourist, massive tourism expelled barcelonians from las ramblas, barri gotic, la ribera, blasted all good bars and restaurant and transformed them in places for tourists selling impossible "tapas" and 1 liter beer jars for 12 dollars.
Even the famous seedy life of Barcelona is gone, that was the best of the city, carrer robadors, all gone.

That's true as well. If too many tourists seriously bother you choose Buenos Aires instead.
