Everytime I go to northern europe those cities are so quiet!!! Everyone (well westerners) say Amsterdam is crazy for example but if you go there after you've been in big Asian or Latin American cities, Amsterdam looks like a small town!
I was just talking with a Belgian girl who was in Bogota and she was telling me that in Bogota Colombia restaurants are opened till 4am, and people were everywhere the place after she left the nightclub at 3am. theaters, cinemas, porn establishments, nightclubs, coffee shops all open till 5am or so!
she was telling me you can go watch a show in the theater at 2am! They have 24 hour theaters!
even supermarkets are open till 3am
then go back to europe where everything closes at 11pm was kind of a cultureshock for her!
I noticed that spanish speaking countries tend to have way better nightlife (in europe spain for example is FAR FAR FAR superior in nightlife to other countries of the continent)
and if you to the americas... cities like mexico city, buenos aires etc. TRULY NEVER SLEEP!
What is it about spanish speaking countries that people seem happier, they look good, dress up well to go out, they have good food, good alcohol, everyone is relaxed, smiling, laughing, talking to strangers.... no dramas, no social cliches like in english speaking cultures for example, no etiquette to follow etc.
I think a warmer climate might promote a different approach to socializing, in general. Climates that have warmer evenings, seem more conductive to a relaxed approach to nightlife.
