I like very few and simple christmas lights and only without blinking. The best color is warm yellow. Then I like them to go aroudn a christmas tree and there is more tree and less lights. Very very few lamps.
I don't understand why some cities as new york or such waste so beautiful tree every year when that tree cannot be seen because there is too much lamps. Just put some dead material in tree shape and let those beautiful trees live.
I do have lights on every window but they are warm and sweet and not american style.
In Turin (Italy) Christmas lights in the main streets and squares are no more so related to Christmas. In fact they are prepared at the end of October-beginning of November and remain there for all the winter. And they don't represent any of the usual Xmas decorations. The project is called "Luci d'artista", which means "Artist's lights". More or less the installations for the ongoing year are the ones you can see here
