That's not a easy question, to erase a period of a country history would (hypothetically) also change all the successive history, up to present. It cannot be excluded that history could have developed into something worse that the erased events.
Anyway, for Italy I would say:
- 1922/1945, so the whole period of fascism and wwII.
(quite obvious, isn't it?)
I'm guessing, if there was one administration the USA would want to erase from its history, it would probably be the Obama years.
If there was one historical event that the USA would erase, probably the Great Depression.
If there was one military campaign that the USA would rather never happened, Vietnam, followed by the War of 1812.
