Nevada is famous for being playground for testing ideias....atomic bombs, rocket engines, hyperloop etc etc
Is Dubai emulating the sense of Laissez-faire of Nevada?
Dubai is old news but fat Vin Diesel learnt about it 10 years later after it was cool and made a movie about it...
'Laissez-faire'? Only when taxes are considered but anything over $10,000 gets double-checked for terrorism linkage...meaning it's not a good place for money laundering at all.

Laissez-faire i used was more in the sense of anything goes... not economically
Perhaps in the sense of the Arab world, Dubai is a playground of sorts. You can find alcohol in many places, some raunchy belly dancing shows, and women don't need to be covered up in a niqab if they don't want too.
However, casinos (what people think of when they think of Las Vegas) are not allowed. Neither are public displays of affection. So Dubai is very conservative by Western and even some Asian standards.
I think there is still a misunderstanding going on. I am not talking about casino or booze. I am talking about it being an experimental ground in Middle East just like Nevada is for North America.

And what ideas are they experimenting with there? Something the civilized world had experiences in the 19th and 20th century? What's the takeaway here, I frankly don't get it? Not throwing gays off rooftops (they have very high rooftops there) instead just jailing them?
I think Dubai is mostly experimenting with extravagant architecture. They are just building taller and taller without looking at the need behind it. They do have some cool unique things like the first underwater hotel, the World archipelago and the Burj Dubai (the world’s first 7 star hotel).
In many ways Dubai wants to have it all. Tallest building, largest mall, cops driving Ferrari’s...
Some of my family have happily lived there for ten years. Within the expat community there is no problem drinking alcohol(unless you drive), wearing the sort of clothes they would wear at home and generally behaving as you would here. They miss eating pork, cool weather and not a lot more.
