Insight is about focusing on your readers' concerns and what solutions you offer

Let’s be clear- Insightful Writing is…

• A thorough understanding of a person or thing that is gathered through research, experience, and data. This is used to forge a deeper relationship with your reader.
• Using insights to inform your writing and move the reader by addressing specific needs.
• Insightful writing, when used properly, can give your reader a better sense of control and help reduce their fears or concerns.
• This also gives you as a writer greater potency in the messages you convey.
• You will also present yourself as the solution and your writing will have relevance.

WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT DO YOU DO?


In your writing, you must Cleary state the following
1. Who are you?
2. What do you do?
3. How do you do it?

SEEKING INSIGHT
Here some questions that will get you started on writing more insightfully. Fill in a much as you can about your target reader. This will put you in the right headspace to understand concerns and fears.

Tone

What situation is the reader in and how did they come to find your article?
What situation will this content put the reader in?
Is this a sensitive topic? (Politics, Religion, Privacy, etc)

Motivations
Why do people want to follow your content?

Emotion
How does your article make people feel?

Interests
What does she care about? Where does she work?
What does he look like? What does he do for fun?
What’s her favorite movie/ book/vacation? What are her goals in life?
What does she love about this content? Why does it speak to her? How will it make her life better?

RolePlay
Pretend you are organizing a party and the guests are your readers. What kind of host will you be?
What channels do your people use? How?

Competitive Research
What are your competitors currently doing with the content?
What kind of content Is missing what gaps can you fill? And how can you differently standout?
Consider telling different stories on different platforms
What is each good for? How can you optimize each?
