Retired and wanting to move to Wyoming. Spent time in Gillette few years back. Fell in love with the state and met some great people. To my surprise some folks from Wy. now living in Texas tell me not to retire there....…..Seems some bad feelings from past ol' west history still linger on. A good friend lived in Sherdian for 2 years and had to tell folks he was from Oklahoma!!! Any truth, what gives?

have known a few Texans, one used to summer in Star Valley, he was a rice farmer. Met a few that worked oil patch, Good friend in college got his PHD in wool science . He back in Texas running a wool and mohair Wearhouse coop. Hotel restaurant in Casper before the last dip in oil, eating breakfast one could her Louisiana and Texas accents all talking oil....But it easier to meet someone from Wyoming that in Cattle or Oil then I think it is a Texan in either industry...

LOL! I'd have a hard time believing there would be a problem with Texans being unwelcomed in Gillette. There's lots of them here. I just met a couple of them yesterday who moved to Gillette this past spring and love it here. Really, there are probably thousands of former Texans living in Gillette who either moved here for oil and gas or for coal mining.

Some people like to give Texans a hard time in jest, but can't recall ever hearing anyone seriously saying they don't like people from Texas. I'd have to admit that I've known a couple who I wasn't crazy about, but it had nothing to do with being from Texas. Some of my favorite friends are from Texas and have lived here for 40+ years. I just don't see a problem.

In general if you're not from Wyoming a lot of people will not associate with you, at least in my experience. I never saw any hostility to Texans specifically. When I say associate I don't mean that people are outright mean, just not sociable with those from out of state. In seven years of living in Wyoming I could count on one hand the number of native Wyomingites I was friends with. Everyone else I hung out with was a transplant. My experience anyway.

I've only resided in Wyoming for 18 years … and frequented the area on business trips for 25 years before that. Made a lot of sales calls in the Gillette area for industrial products over those years.

From what I've experienced, I'd say that the nonsense you've heard about "past ol' west history" is pure BS. Especially your "good friend" who "lived in Sheridan for 2 years" and had to mislead folk about where he'd come from.

My take: the "attitude" you get here is the one that you brought with you.

Plenty of room here, no worries about 'fitting-in or else'...it's the same here as everywhere else you go here onthe North American Continent.

Everything you find everywhere else, can be found here in Wyoming.

Nothing 'special' about Wyoming, compared to anywhere else.

Visit Wyoming and stay awhile to get a feel of the area. Pick a area of the State that you may like and check into them. Sounds line Gillette, is one you are interested in. I would have a couple more area's to consider also as backup.

Well you might be safe for the most part, but then there are some Wyomies who are still sore over the
Johnson County War, when all those hired guns from Texas came in and shot the place up. They shot
Nate Champion and he was even originally from Texas. We had em surrounded and the government had to
come in and rescue em and they all got off scott free, so yeah, there is that.....

I could maybe overlook that, but concerned you might bring funny critters up here like them dillas or those
little wild pigs you got running around down there....

And spect you would be wanting Whataburgers brought in, and I been trying to get In-N-Out, so that's a problem. BTW, we love Okies, they taste like chicken.
