Greetings all,

I plan to buy carpet to be installed in my SC home. I bought the carpet from a business in NC. He told me he had to collect the tax.

I came from PA, and the last time we bought carpet I believe it was exempt from sales tax because it was attached to the home, or something like that.

Does anyone have info on this question? I will also post in the Charlotte, NC forum (if this is not against the rules.)

Default Thanks, I got my answer

Over in the Charlotte forum. There is no exemption here (SC or NC) for sales taxes on things installed in your home, such as carpeting or windows.

Hey! Just a question. Does anyone on here have experience with Empire flooring? I was toying with the idea of new carpeting. They always have these great "sounds too good to be true" deals. Thanks for any response.

This is my experience with them:

Called after seeing one of their commericals on TV about 4 years ago. The salesman came out to give me an estimate and then pushed for me to make a decision right then and there. He kept pushing for me to approve his quote even after I told him I wanted to sleep on the figure that he gave. He wouldn't allow and kept pushing for me to sign the estimate so I told him I wasn't about to use them due to their pushy sales approach.

I ended up using a carpet store located in Pineville; and they turned out to be 1/3rd the price that Empire was trying to charge. So I was glad that I didn't go with them and their pushy sales practices.

Psy

Empire puts all jobs up for bids. Whoever will install the cheapest gets it, no matter their experience.
