You can submit the fence permit yourself and just pay the permit fee. Then just pay an expediter just for the variance portion after permit has been denied. That can save some money. Or you can pay the expediter to handle the permit and the variance. Typically a permit takes 8 weeks but the town now has an expedite desk which gets smaller jobs such as fences done quicker. I think it's like an extra $100 bucks and the town will do it in a week. It's only for small jobs like decks, fences, bathrooms..
