First frost...

...about a month late. It killed my poor Cubanelle pepper plant, which had been surviving under a plastic dropcloth, but spared my pot of beet greens and cilantro. This was the only time I had ever been able to grow cilantro without it bolting. We had already harvested the carrots.

Bye-bye, 2015 container garden.

Container Choices

Last year, we started vegetable gardening again, after a ten-year gap. But this time, we did it all in containers. Last year we had some pretty good success with a cherry and a patio tomato, and some Cherokee wax beans. Not so much potatoes...never buy dollar store dirt!

This year we were dumb enough to put two indeterminate tomatoes (Black Krim, Black Prince) in a little bitty Earthbox.

They fell over. We propped them up with a ladder. They're almost horizontal,...

Extra 'maters!

The Patio and cherry tomato plants have been cranking out the fruits, so we have extra. Since the cherry skins are tough, ick! I threw them into a freezer bag (along with a few Patios) for later food mill-age.

...was all it took for the lawn, both front and back, to start blooming toadstools. Which the squirrels eat.

Haven't seen any dead squirrels lying around. Do they know something we don't?
